Frequently Asked Questions.
Do you Tattoo Minors?
Under the guidelines of the state, yes, we can tattoo 16 and 17 year olds with parental consent. Proper documentation is also needed: photo ID with birthdate for both the parent and child as well as the birth certificate of child. If legal guardian, proof is still required. Parent/Guardian is required to remain present for the duration of the tattoo. Below is a link for State of CT laws and additional information on tattooing minors:
What Can I expect?
New London Ink gives you a professional tattoo in a professional manner. You will feel comfortable and at ease throught. Each artist goes through the proper steps to make sure everything is sterile and safe before beginning your tattoo. They will take the time to explain the process and answer any questions that you might have before the tattoo begins. They will also give detailed instrustions on how to care for your tattoo once they are done.
Is there privacy?
Yes, we have privacy screens that we can put up which will block anyone from seeing you during your tattoo. We understand that there are personal spots on the body that you would rather not share with others.
Will it hurt? How bad is the pain?
Most likely you will feel some pain from getting a tattoo. Each person has a different tolerance for pain. For some, it doesn't bother them too much, others can be more sensitive to the pain. Location of the tattoo also plays a role as certain parts of the body are more sensitive. Some people describe the feeling as a "hot scratch". Some have said it was "annoying". Most say it was not nearly as bad as they feared. Try not to get too worked up about the pain, it's not usually nearly as bad as people think.
Do you provide aftercare instructions for my tattoo?
Yes of course we do! Your artist will go over the proper steps to make sure your tattoo heals properly as well as provide you written instructions.
How much does a tattoo cost?
This is a common question that is hard to judge. At New London Ink our minimum is $80. We primarily charge by the hour, which is between $100 and $120 depending on which artist you choose. A rough idea of time can be given, however keep in mind that it's a ballpark estimate.
What do I need for Identification?
Proper ID showing proof of age and identity is required in order to receive a tattoo. Acceptable forms of ID are state issued drivers license, state issued ID card or a Passport.
